Jet Lagging

The adjustment to “Alabama” time has been different for each of us.  On Tuesday I was aided by two cans of Coke to get through the “walls” that I hit at about 1:00pm and at 6:00pm.  On Wednesday I was much better as I did not have any soda, but hit a wall at 6:00pm again.  This time I was only able to fight it for a few hours before I went to sleep at 8:00pm.  I don’t know if it was the jet lag or just being excited for the first day of class, but I ended up waking up at 11:00pm and not being able to get back to sleep.  I stayed awake for a few hours getting some work done at home when I just decided to head off to JSU at 2:00am so that I could get even more work done.  It is now 8:00am and I am feeling a bit sluggish, so hopefully I will be able to make it through my first class at 12:30pm.

Jet and Ben have been having ups and downs adjusting to the time differences, but they seem to be having a harder time with it than I am.  Ben has not been happy sleeping alone in a room in his crib, so Jet has either put him to sleep on our bed only to move him to his crib afterwards or not moved him at all.  When Jet went to wake Ben up from his afternoon nap yesterday, Ben didn’t want to wake and everytime Jet asked him to get up, he just stayed crouched face-down and said “no”.  When Ben has been awake, it is almost like Christmas morning for him as there are so many toys around that he either forgot he had or was just happy to see again.  It is just fun to watch him have such a good time playing with all of his toys, but I wonder how long that will last.  Jet has just bought all new child-locks for all of our cabinets as Ben was quick to raid them after we got back.  We have slowly been able to meet up with many of the neighbors just to say “hi” and let them know we are back, but catching up with everyone in the neighborhood can be a bit exhausting when you are already a bit sleepy.  We are so lucky to have such nice neighbors wanting to know how our trip was, though.

Jet has had the chance to spend time shopping with her good friend Amber and Ben and Amber’s daughter Olivia (about the same age) have had a great time playing together.  Jet has been feeling a little under the weather to which she suspects that it might be her allergies acting up again.  Ben has a scheduled visit to his pediatrician tomorrow so it will be interesting to hear what she says about Ben after four months in Thailand.  Jet is also applying to lots of different jobs in the area, so hopefully something will turn out this time around.

That’s about all to report right now.  We are doing well and are excited about getting over the jet lag and return to our normal lives.  Hopefully we will be back full-steam ahead by the Labor Day holiday.

Happy back to school! I really like the feeling of having a professional career. I picked up morning door duty for some extra cash. I figured I like to get there early anyways standing outside and watching the kids for 20 minutes should not be bad. I say this now, but when it is 10 degrees out I will want them to take their $8 and shovel it. I know only 8 but I think it will add up. I have just one naughty class that I have to drop the hammer on. So I am hoping that I can whip them into shape before it is too late.
I bet you guys are exhausted. Andy I don’t know how you are still functioning. And Jet watch out, don’t get Ben hooked on sleeping with you or you might end up with another Josh. Ty was sleeping alone in a bed before Josh. Also I hope you feel better and I can’t wait for you to come back in Nov. Shopping…coffee…bagles…Panara : )
Oh yes I should mention the Harley 105th is going on. I can hear bikes going by on the freeway, which I rarely ever hear. The harley dealership on Siver Spring, next to Silk, has been packed all day. Silver spring has been lined with bikes, its pretty neat to see. I’m sure aunt sue and renee will have better stories about the festivities next week.
Thats all for now, talk to you later

Maggie… I called you yesterday but I forgot that you were working :). I hope we are going back for Thanksgiving but since the gas is very expensive we might wait till Christmas.. but will see, ok? Ben is now a big boy and he is not handful like he was in Thailand. Maybe he is still jet leg.
    I will call you weekend.
    Love.. Jet

Hey Janette, are you going on Sunday?

  4. Janette Says:

We won’t be out this weekend with a lot going on for us here at the same time.
Andy & Jet–I hope you are able to come for Thanksgiving too! It already sucks that we only see you all just over Christmas break! Things are still the same around here. I go back to work in a month so it will be nice to interact with adults again. I stopped by work this morning to pick up meds at the pharmacy and, sadly, pick up diapers for Abby as well. I can get them thru work for what a good sale price is at a store. It will be nice to go back to work partly because its a good reason to have my overly hyper two year old to interact with kids her age. In the past week she has created two wonderful messes for us to clean up. The first was my fault, I left baby powder sit on the bed and she decided to “clean” our bed with it because that’s what I was doing earlier in the day. I had also left the paper towels I was using on the bed so that was a nice and messy combo. Jeremy vaccuumed it up because I was ticked at the prospect of cleaning the bed a second time in one day. On the positive side, the bed did smell baby powder fresh when we went to bed that night. The next day Abby was playing in one of our large windows and somehow got partially behind a wire shelf and knocked it over. The plant sitting on it lost about half the dirt to the floor but at least it was in the kitchen and I could sweep up the lovely mess. Now I just look at Abby like she’s a ticking time bomb…..when will she go off next???!! The baby is doing well, and I finally put more pictures on my computer so I’ll be sure to e-mail them to you.
Hope you are all getting back to normal sleep hours soon! The toy thing is true by the way. If Abby shows no interest in some of her toys, I just put them away and pull them out at least 2-3 months later and they take on a second life, like they are brand new. You should see her with the baby toys, not that exciting, especially for Katie, but to Abby they are all new toys that she absolutely has to play with every day!
I’ll talk to you later, hope you have a great weekend—-get some R & R!!!
